Just Another Day in the Park

It started out just about the same. It was cold, dark, and we got to the park before it opened and stood around a fire for 20 minutes until the gate was lifted. Honestly, I was not expecting to see another tiger. Some people go on several safaris before they get to see a tiger and I saw one within the first few minutes of my first tiger safari.

But today was to be my lucky day again. In fact I took even more photos of tigers today than yesterday. First we saw a tigress that my naturalist, Happy, said he thought was the mother of the cub we saw yesterday, but I was not able to get a photograph because it was lying low in the grass. Happy said there were three, but yesterday I only saw one move a little in the grass. And of course, I got plenty of photos of the big male tiger. Today we saw a total of four including the three cubs that are believed to be about 6 months old. This time the tiger cubs stayed around long enough to draw a crowd and were quite entertaining. The cubs, though getting large, were still quite playful. Mom stayed away from the cubs the whole time we were there. Happy said he thought she was trying to keep the big male from finding her young, because males are known to kill cubs.

To end the day, Happy spotted a leopard (actually the leopard already had spots, Happy just saw it climbing a tree), and we stopped to takes some photos. To see some of the best photos (not all 889) from day 2 click here.
