Pemba 2024

The photo above of the little warbler-like bird is of a Pemba White-eye Zosterops vaughani. Though common on the island, it is one of four endemic birds. I also was able to photograph both male and female Pemba Sunbird Nectarinia pembae, but did not see the Pemba Scops Owl, Otus pembaensis or the Pemba Green Pigeon, Treron pembaensis. I did see what some describe as the largest flying mammal on Earth, the endemic Pemba Flying Fox, Pteropus voeltzkow, where I was able to photograph hundreds of them roosting in the trees during the daytime on our way from the airport to the resort.
